WHO ARE YOU?
I am the mom to 3 great kids: Marcus (9), Adrienne (6), and Grady (5).  Tom and I have been married for almost 12 years but have been together since we were 16.  I’m a physician’s assistant for Bellin and love helping my patients take better care of themselves.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO CROSSFIT GREEN BAY?
I’ve always been an avid runner and participated in road races regularly, but never really found that level of competition and camaraderie that I had in college cross-country and track.  Tom started CrossFit a few months before me and suggested I give it a try.  I never looked back.

WHAT WAS YOUR STATE OF HEALTH BEFORE BEGINNING CROSSFIT?
Before CrossFit, I considered myself to be in good shape “for a mom”.  I always was able to lose the baby weight and stay active but never pushed myself too hard-loved my bicep curls at the Y!

WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND WHAT PROGRESS HAVE YOU MADE?
Currently, I am preparing for my 4th regional competition, 3rd as a part of CrossFit Green Bay.  My progress continues even four years after joining CFGB.  I don’t PR as often or by as much as I used to, but the wonderful part of CrossFit is that there’s no end to your potential.

HOW WAS YOUR ON-RAMP EXPERIENCE?  WHAT PERSONAL BENEFIT DID YOU RECEIVE FROM ON RAMP?
On Ramp was a long time ago!  Grant’s gym was very young and I had a lot of one-on-one direction and attention.  That certainly worked out well as I was learning a whole new ballgame.  I couldn’t do stationary burpees for the first two months!  I kept traveling forward!

WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO JOIN THE REGULAR CLASSES?
Joining the regular programming was a bit nerve-wracking and I was a bit stubborn.  There weren’t a lot of women at CFGB yet (Betsy and I did On Ramp together!) and I would argue with Grant about why he continued to write down the women’s Rx weights-he was wasting his time!

WHAT IN YOUR MIND MAKES CROSSFIT UNIQUE?  WHY WERE YOU SUCCESSFUL WITH CROSSFIT?
CrossFit is unique because it’s both constantly-varied, and reproducible.  Want to see how far you’ve come? Repeat a benchmark workout after a few months.  That’s just the workout aspect.  What makes CrossFit WORK is its community.  The people working out next to you and laying it on the line every day, pushing both you and themselves, are why CrossFit will continue to thrive.

WHAT SETS CROSSFIT GREEN BAY APART?
CFGB does it right.  No cutting corners.  No special treatment.  The coaches do a great job helping athletes reach their potential.  As Grant likes to say, “we pay attention to the details”.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THOSE WHO FEEL LIKE THEY’RE NOT IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE TO TRY CROSSFIT?  OR AFRAID OF INJURY?
Every movement is adaptable.  Because our On Ramp is a comprehensive class, there’s no “minimum gym requirement.” Who knows? That might be our coaches’ favorite athlete; no ego or bad habits to break!

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS GOING FORWARD?
My goal is to remain healthy and be a good role model for my kids.  I want to be competitive but continue to enjoy the time I spend in the gym.  Masters in a few short years?!?  We’ll see about that!  I plan on staying in good shape (not just for a mom!) so Tom and I can continue our friendly competition between ourselves—“How many rounds did you get??”.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CROSSFIT EXERCISE?  WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
Favorite: Handstand-pushups, rope climbs and double-unders
Least Favorite: Wall-balls, rowing, chest-to-bar pullups
